TURQUOISE BLUE: work-in-progress for Kaleidoskop im Nebel on Compressions & Rarefactions

Upon the invitation of the renowned ensemble for contemporary music – Cantus Ensemble, choreographer Marjana Krajač in collaboration with three dancers; Lana Hosni, Irena Mikec and Sara Piljek, created a concert-ballet for the composition Kaleidoskop im Nebel by the renowned avant-garde composer and trombonist Vinko Globokar (born in 1934), of the Slovene descent living in Paris.

This is a recording of a work-in-progress presentation, that was performed on 19th of March 2016 at the Zagreb Dance Center studio, in the frame of the conference Construction of a Perspective. Music that is being danced with here is from the album Compressions & Rarefactions of the New York based composer Kenneth Kirschner. Work-in-progress performance was focused on the movement study and several choreographic thoughts and decisions. Departing from the stability versus porosity of the choreographic material, this work-in-progress presentation is enveloping upon the Kirchner’s music, structuring towards the Globokar’s composition. In that sense, music is more than a proposition or a template; within the oscillatory choreographic wave, specific music composition is a mediator, intercessor and an agent of the structural.
